Goeller's Hot Hand Beyond the Arc Propels Cranford Past Johnson

Playing in the third game this week, after sitting through the first day of exams and with the SAT's looming on the morrow, it would be understandable to be less than perfectly focused on playing basketball.  For Jenna Goeller, however, it was the prescription for a career-high shooting night as the Cougars defeated the Johnson Crusaders.
Goeller put the Cougers ahead for good in the first quarter, dropping in 9 points on 3 for 3 shooting from behind the arc.  A perfect, and seemingly effortless first quarter for the Junior guard.  Kaitlin McGovern added a pair of baskets and Morgan Miller got to the hoop for two points to round out the scoring for the Cougars in what was otherwise a slow-paced first period.
In the second quarter, Goeller didn't miss a step, drilling in her first touch on the ball for another three points off an assist by Morgan Miller.  Miller then dropped nine straight of her own: three from the charity stripe after being fouled behind the arc, and two more three-pointers off of assists from Jess McCoy and Goeller.  McCoy added two and Kerri Wischeusen added another two to close out the half with a 31-12 lead.
In the third frame Goeller hit yet again from behind the arc, as did Miller who also added four freebies from the line.  Mairead McKeary hit two straight for four points and McCoy and McGovern added a bucket each.
In the fourth quarter, the Cougars saw an outstanding effort from their Sophomores on the boards, with Meg Pringle hauling in 5 rebounds, Alyssa Curry adding 4 boards and Hannah Demars adding another three.  The Cougars finished out a solid 49-26 victory over the visiting Crusaders.
On the day, Jenna Goeller was a deadly long range threat, connecting on 5 of 9 shooting from behind the arc to finish with a career high 15 points.  Morgan Miller continued her consistent excellence adding a game-high 18 points, 5 steals and 3 blocks. Kaitlin McGovern tossed in six points along with three rebounds and two steals.  Mairead McKeary finished with four points and four rebounds.  Jess McCoy added four points, and team-highs with 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 blocks.  Keri Wischeusen was solid with the ball for the Cougars, adding two points and three rebounds.
