Just wanted to give a little insight into this week's initial Union County Top 10 of the 2011-'12 season. A look at all of the area leaders throughout the state can be found here.
Here is the first Union Top 10 that ran in Tuesday's paper and online at NJ.com:

Gov. Livingston has proven itself to be at the top of the rankings by virtue of its hard-fouty victories over Morris Catholic (55-52) and Roselle Catholic (42-25) en route to winning the Roselle Catholic Tournament last week. Gov. Livingston was ranked #19 in The Star-Ledger Top 20 this week.
Roselle Catholic, which has just the one loss to G.L., sits in second place. After graduating last winter's Union County Player of the Year in Melissa Tobie, it has been paced by the play of Marcia Senatus and Tori Pozsonyi.
Cranford, which is the only other undefeated team in the county, won its Cranford Tournament last week with victories over Nutley and West Orange. Morgan Miller leads the team with 15.2 ppg., 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.6 assists.
New Providence was 3-1 before dropping an overtime decision to Oak Knoll on Tuesday night and had only lost to Cranford (44-35 on Dec. 20). It owns a 46-35 victory over Summit in the final round of the Summit Hilltopper Tournament on Dec. 29.
Which leads us to Summit, which lost by only two to Roselle Catholic 33-31 on Dec. 22. Guard Kate Martino (13.5 ppg.) and Kelly Osmulski (11.0 ppg.) help key the offense.
Linden at 4-2 is next. The Tigers played well in losses to Roselle Catholic (50-45) and West Morris (72-66) and second-year coach Paul Gorski has the team going in the right direction.
Johnson is 1-4, but has played well and every county loss is to a team rated ahead of it. The Clark school lost by four to Gov. Livingston and 12 to Roselle Catholic before suffering a setback to Cranford Tuesday night.
Scotch Plains-Fanwood is 2-0 against county opposition, earning narrow victories over Plainfield and Westfield. Taylor Sebolao (14.5 ppg., 5.5 rebounds, 2.7 steals) helps fuel the offense.
Dayton was 4-1 before losing to Gov. Livingston on Tuesday night. It defeated Union Catholic (46-40 on Dec. 17) and lost to Johnson (44-34) and has three victories over non-county opponents (Verona, Bernards, Mo-Beard).
Union (3-3) rebounded from a season-opening loss to Summit to win three straight against Orange, Roselle and Westfield before dropping two straight to Mendham and Linden. Jamiyah Bethune is scoring at a 12.5 ppg. clip for the Farmers.
On the fringe:  Union Catholic (4-2), Hillside (4-1), Brearley (5-2).
