The Cranford varsity girls basketball team hosted Bridgewater Raritan High School on Thursday night.  Bridgewater came in to the game looking to improve their record to 6-3.  The Cougars senior captain Morgan Miller had a different idea.
Miller dominated the court early in the game, scoring 16 of her team-leading 19 points in the first half, and setting the pace for the Cougars.  Miller's points came off a combination of full court drives to the basket, and assists from Junior guard Jenna Goeller.
Goeller, always a long range threat for the Cougars, contributed a beautiful three pointer from beyond the arc to go with her three assits, which brought her season total to 20.
Defensively, the Cougars had to contend with Bridgewater's lightening quick guard Denisha Petty Evans, who entered the contest averaging 17 points per game.  Sophmore guard Mairead McKeary stepped up and defended Petty Evans throughout the game, cutting down on her open looks and keeping her clear of the basket.  McKeary also turned in 10 points offensively, along with 2 steals.
In the second half, when foul trouble sent Miller to the bench.  Sophmore Kerri Wischeusen stepped up and delivered a pair of blocked shots, and two rebounds to bolster the Cougar defense.
Junior forward Kaitlin McGovern also had an outstanding day, scoring career highs in three categories: 17 points on 7-9 shooting, 9 rebounds, and 6 blocked shots.
Junior forward Jess McCoy led the team with 11 rebounds and 5 assists, to go with her 10 points, 2 steals and 3 blocks.  It was the fourth double-double for McCoy this season.
