PLAYER TO WATCH

Dynesha Frazier-Champagne of St. Patrick reached a milestone on Friday when she scored the 1,000th point of her career.

Frazier-Champagne, a 5-6 senior guard, reached the plateau when she scored with three seconds remaining in the second quarter during a 35-17 victory over Roselle Park. She finished with 18 points – all in the first half – and now has 1,001 career points.

“It’s definitely an achievement and I’m proud of it,” said Frazier-Champagne, averaging 17.0 points per game this year. “But it was a goal of mine since freshman year.”

Frazier Champagne totaled 261 points as a freshman playing for Benedictine. She had 178 points her first year at St. Patrick two years ago and 443 points as a junior.

St. Patrick (4-3), which has won four of its last five after a 0-2 start, is the host to Kent Place on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Although it carries a 6-6 mark into Monday’s 4 p.m. home game against Cranford, Oak Knoll has played better than its .500 record indicates.

Oak Knoll, which is ranked eighth this week in Union County, owns victories over Dayton, ranked second, and New Providence, ranked sixth.

The Summit school has been paced by Kerri Moran (13.4 ppg., 4.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2.2 steals), Catherine Bonner (6.3 ppg.), Gabriela Pallicer (5.8 ppg.), Kelly McAloon (4.5 ppg.) and Amanda Fritz (4.2 ppg., 5.5 rebounds, 2.1 steals).

GAME TO WATCH

Union will take the court Monday with a purpose when it welcomes Westfield to Louis Rettino Gymnasium at 4 p.m.

Union (5-8), coached by Justin Meyer, has been donning pink sneakers all year in bringing awareness to breast cancer and Monday will be raising funds for the Susan B. Komen Foundation.

Union senior Jamiyah Bethune, who is averaging 13.1 points per game, will enter the game 16 points shy of reaching 1,000 for her career.

Westfield (4-8), which is 4-3 after a 0-5 start, has been steered by Lillian Scott (12.3 ppg.), Jaqueline Knapp (8.3 ppg.) and Carolyn Maguire (4.5 ppg., 4.7 rebounds).
